Here's a bit of the backstory:

Part 1: Once Upon a Fanfiction- 
Back in early 2011, a fanfiction called "Lunar Republic" was published online (read chapter 1 here), about Princess Luna taking over Equestria. That fanfic became very popular and made lots of bronies support the Republic.
Other Bronies, on the other hand, decided to support Celestia and made the Solar Empire.
That was when the Division began.

Part 2: The Great Debates-  
Act I- I'm That Element, So I belong Here!:
One of the most known Borny debates is which nation the Mane 6 will support. Here are ideas for each:
Twilight Sparkle: Most litely the Solar Empire because she is Celestia's star pupil 
Pinkie Pie: Either one.  She just goes with the nature. 
Rainbow Dash: Most likely the Solar Emppire because of her element (Loyalty). 
Rarity: Depends on which one is more "stylish". 
Applejack: Most likely Solar Empire because she is the element of Honesty. 
Fluttershy: Depends. She is the element of Kindness 
So yeah, that.
Act II- Eternal Night... NOT!: 
There are some rumors spreading about what each side will do. An example is Eternal Night/Day, but that's just propaganda. Worthless Propaganda.

Part 3: Oh, The Glory of Media!- 
A user known as IAmNotNotACleverPony made a song called, "For the New Lunar Republic", which became very popular:

A blog named Equestriadaily even did a remix contest. Here are a few good remixes:

Epilogue- 
So yeah, for the next few years, The Lunar Republic will be like a renaissance for the Bronies, that'll inspire art, music, videos, and writing. And it's all good.
